25 Bible Verses About Strength

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

This isn't a motivational poster. Paul wrote it about learning to be content in hunger and plenty — the strength is to endure whatever comes, because Christ supplies it, not because you're tough.

"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

Strength here comes from waiting on God, not gritting your teeth. When you're running on empty, the fix isn't to push harder — it's to return to the source and be refilled.

"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness."

God's strength doesn't show up despite your weakness — it shows up through it. The place you feel most inadequate is exactly where his power is most visible.

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee."

Three promises stacked in one verse: I'll strengthen you, I'll help you, I'll hold you up. When you can't stand on your own, that's what the 'right hand' is for.

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."

Not a distant help. Not a slow help. A 'very present' one — strength that's already in the room with you before you even finish asking.

"The joy of the LORD is your strength."

Your strength isn't built on your circumstances or your mood — it's built on joy that comes from God. That's a foundation that holds when everything else wobbles.

"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped."

Strength and protection in the same breath. God doesn't just give you power to push forward — he covers you while you do it.

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might."

Notice where the strength comes from: 'in the Lord,' 'in the power of his might.' You're not asked to manufacture strength — you're asked to plug into his.

"My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever."

Honest verse. Sometimes your body gives out and your heart gives out. And still — God is the strength underneath the strength. He holds when you can't.

"Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."

The reason to be strong isn't 'you've got this.' It's 'God goes with you and won't abandon you.' Courage built on his presence, not your confidence.

"I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer."

David piles up words — strength, rock, fortress, deliverer — because one word can't hold it. When life is coming at you, God is all of these at once.

"The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places."

God doesn't just keep you standing — he makes you sure-footed on dangerous ground, like a deer that can run along a cliff edge without slipping.

"The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation."

Strength and song together — because when God carries you through something, endurance turns into gratitude. The thing that nearly broke you becomes the thing you sing about.

"Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song."

Trust and fear can't share the same seat. When you decide God is your strength, fear loses its grip — not instantly, but really.

"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"

If God is the strength of your whole life, the question flips: not 'can I handle this?' but 'who could possibly out-power the one holding me?'

"Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually."

Strength isn't a one-time top-up. You seek it 'continually' — which means running out and coming back is part of the rhythm, not a failure.

"In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul."

Sometimes the answer to prayer isn't the circumstance changing — it's strength poured directly into your soul so you can face it. That's still an answer.

"Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness."

God's strength often shows up as patience — the power to keep going, gently, through a long hard thing without losing your joy. That's strength most people overlook.

"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

Being strong is framed as a command — but it's a command you can obey, because it rests on a fact: God is with you everywhere you go.

"Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me."

Paul wrote this when everyone had deserted him. Even alone, he wasn't alone — God stood with him and strengthened him. The same is true in your emptiest room.

"The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace."

Strength and peace come from the same hand. God doesn't only toughen you up — he settles you down. You can be strong and at rest at once.

"He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength."

This verse is specifically for the empty and the exhausted. Not the strong getting stronger — the depleted getting refilled. If you have 'no might' right now, this one is addressed to you.

"That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man."

The strength God gives is inside-out — 'in the inner man.' It steadies who you are before it changes what you can do. That's the strength that lasts.

"Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD."

Notice the condition: 'all ye that hope in the LORD.' Hope isn't wishful thinking here — it's where the heart-strengthening actually comes from.

"And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength."

Your strength isn't just something to draw on — it's something to give back. Whatever strength you have, God asks you to love him with it. Direction, not just supply.
